As I have noted in my reviews of other Clark’s books, he has the ability to take a complex subject and make it easy to understand. That ability continues to show in this book on PLC programming using Ladder Logic and the RSLogix 500 environment. It covers all the key elements of this topic, from basics to more granulated topics like Memory Addressing, Timers Counters, and Integers, and then illustrates the concepts by providing practical examples. Overall, PLC Programming Using RSLogix 500: A Practical Guide to Ladder Logic and the RSLogix 500 Environment is an outstanding guide for students who want to learn about this topic on their own or for instructors who are looking for a suitable textbook.
These have always been very informative and easy to use guides, which I've appreciated above all else when it comes to my software. I'm not a person who does a lot of programming, so I really liked that the book goes through the steps, explains the issues I can run into, and gives plenty of examples. As an FYI, the book covers programming principles, interfacing with RS-Logix, Basics of Ladder Logic Programming, Memory Addressing, RSLogix Program Instructions, Timers and Counters and Integers, Math Functions, Peripheral Devices, and Practical Examples, which is the part I really appreciated the most.
This is not a book for beginners some knowledge of PLC is required books full of editorial issues, books written by authors who may be able to PLC program well but are for sure butchers of the English language and books full of obsolete information and impractical sidebars and people who work in automation know that one thing they can never have enough of is time and which means it's imperative to just stop reading crummy book and this book gave me the overview I needed to make a better impact on my project and it certainly requires the reader to have a basic understanding of logic and relay controls, along with some concept of programming and it is not a replacement for a full-on ladder logic training course.
Me and my nephew both love how Nathan Clark explains everything in a straightforward, coherent, and logical manner that is very easy to understand. He also provides screenshots. Every single chapter of the book contains clear instructions and screenshots which will make things extremely easy for you even though you're a beginner.
The author does a good job of explaining, making it easy to follow along with the steps needed. Diagrams are also a good guide when trying to see what needs to be done.
Like all of Nathan Clark’s books, this is an easy-to-read, step-by-step, fun instructional book on programming that is written in a way that anyone can follow along and understand easily.
PLC Programming is a very practical, and user-friendly guide. This title and all of Clark's are excellent ways to get started. Great for applications on my job.
