I ignored all the reviewers saying that Weiss' earlier books are better. I see why they said that. This book was a lot of fluff.Another mistake I made was underestimating how specific this book is for consultants. I run a freelance audio engineering service. I'm looking for principles and techniques to figure out how I should value and price my service outside of the conventional: $45-75/hr.This book is for people in the 'advice' business. The lessons are based on what your client stands to make from your advice, and deriving your fee from a percentage of that number.

The concepts in this book are good. They make sense for the most part, and are actionable. However, my complaints, as with other books by this author, are the verbosity of the content. What Alan takes 10 pages to describe could easily be boiled down to 10 sentences or less. Also, it seems like whole paragraphs are lifted virtually word-for-word right out of his other books. He even uses the same euphemisms over and over in each of his books.Even with those detractions, however, there is good content to the book and it is worth a read. However, if you've read some of the other books by this author, it might be possible to skip this one as the content will seem somewhat repetitive.

This review may sound like one from the author or other paid representative -- but it isn't. Nonetheless, this tome provided so much insight and structure as to successfully charging value-based fees that in a sense I have "been paid" by the author many times over. I have read other reviews posted about this book that criticize Alan Weiss for merely regurgitating in extended form his shorter booklet on maximizing fees. However, those reviews miss the point that this book is a greatly expanded analysis of the methods and challenges (and how to surmount them) of high-end value-based fee structuring. When I entered private practice a decade ago I was entirely hourly / standard-rate structured. Now, greater than 90% of my work is value-based according the impact on the client's business. And, the AMOUNT I KEEP (Weiss consistently states: "It's not what you make, it's what you KEEP") has skyrocketed and enabled me to become financially independent. In short, I highly recommend this book -- and feel no "conflict of interest" in saying that I am "being paid by the author" -- in a round about manner! This book gave me a lot to think about and consider. It was recommended by a friend and I am grateful. I think most people who run businesses need to evaluate this concept.

I purchased this book in January of 2013 and heard Alan speak at the Illinois NSA chapter in March 2013. While I have lots to learn, I started implementing his suggestions into my proposals in March of this year. It is a process but I am finding that I am having a higher closing rate. There is no question it can be difficult to educate the client about the focus of achieving the result not the amount of time I spend on achieving the goal. I am dealing with situation now where the client is concerned about the number of contact hours. I keep reiterating that they have access to me whenever you need me when we are working together to achieve the desired agreed upon result(s).

I'm changing careers to an individual consulting practice in personal productivity, and setting fees has been difficult until I read Alan's book. The ideas presented are big, applicable, and completely changed the way I look at work, value, and rates. I've recommended it to everyone in my network, and they've all found it extremely valuable. It's the only book on the topic I've found that actually gives me tools to change the discussion with clients so that the value of my work (which supports commensurate - and higher - fees) is addressed early on. My eight year old now loves reading thanks to these books. So I have bought every single title by this author. I have struggled with getting him to love reading, with so many other distractions competing for his attention, books just don’t seem to hold the allure that they did for me 25 years ago. But thankfully I stumbled across the Amulet series. And I have since bought every book he’s written. My son is now going through a book a day. These books are amazing.

The book was in great condition and I could hardly tell it was used. The details in the art is phenomenal and can hardly be compared to other books. As soon as you read the first few pages, you're hooked! Following the story of this family and the difficult decisions the children have to make to save their world as well as the one they did not know existed, there are twists we don't expect. In other words, this family got more than a house from their missing relative.

This is the third volume is Kibuishi's amulet series and we return to Emily and Navin, in their continued quest to help defeat the elf king. Leon Redbeard is tasked with guiding them to the guardian council, the lost rulers and most powerful stone keepers in the kingdom. If anyone can help them they can. There's just one problem...their city disappeared long ago and many think it has been destroyed. But the group has to try to find them. Along the way they meet new friends, old so called enemies, and a powerful new foe. Emily must continue to master the amulet in order to help them along their way and to ensure their survival.Even with the introduction of more characters Kazu creates a world that's easy to inhabit and follow along with (although it does help to reread the previous volumes before picking up this one.) In this book we learn even more about the elf kingdom and some of its darkest secrets. There are only a couple places that I wish we found out more about the characters, like when they land at the fill stations. What's the story between Rico and the owner? Hopefully more of the story will be revealed along the way...it's just one of those nagging little mysteries. The artwork continues to shine and allow you to get deeper and deeper into the world around the characters. Kazu and his team do an amazing job with creating depth in the illustrations and colors.I continue to highly recommend this series every chance I get and the only downside of the series is having to wait for that next volume to find out what happens to Emily, Navin, and the gang.

This set of books starts off with a bold tragedy that sets up the rest of the characters. Fun and fantastic, Tolkien like with a mash up of Jim Henson muppets. The story is captivating and possibly more important, is the art. Attention to detail, vibrante colours and imaginative creations. You root for the lead charcters, Emily and Navin. Being so young but brave to go after their mother who has been taken by a octopus slash bug monster. The new world they discover will shock and awe them. To find out this place is hidden from the eyes of "our" world and that destruction can come to both. It is reveled to the kids by their great grandpa Silas, who sets them on this important mission. Character delvopment is huge in this book series.The friends that go with Emily and Navin you will cheer for. Miskit the rabbit, Cogsley the jerk robot and Leon the fox, bounty hunter.All important for Emily and Navin to complete their quest. I hope that book five is not the last of this book collection.

So great to see children excited about reading. I bought this for my daughter. She came home from the school library raving over book 1 and said she couldn't wait to finish dinner so she could go read more. A few days later she was depressed because there was a wait list for book 2. I made a deal with her that I would buy her book 2 if she did something for me. She did such a good job I bought her book 2 that same week. She finished it so quickly and couldn't stop talking about it that I decided to see if there were more books in the series. I found out there were 5 with a 6th one in the works! Right then I decided to buy the other books. I didn't realize how difficult it would be to find them all but it was worth the effort! I ended up ordering the entire series including Book 1. Even though she had already read it she wanted to take her time and re-read it. WOW that says it all! Worth every penny. She loved all of them!! It had her from the first word of Book 1 to the end of Book 5. Waiting for Book 6 to be released. I highly recommend this series.

The 4th-5th grade reluctant readers on my campus can't read the Amulet books fast enough! Reading this series has caused several to move on to other fantasy series in graphic novel and traditional formats! It is absolutely exhilarating to hear these kids recommend this series to classmates who also avoid books AND those who read avidly. Highly recommended for kids in grades 3-6.

A little below the recommended age range for this book, but my 5 year old daughter is HOOKED on the Amulet series. We have so much fun reading these together! The art is imaginative and we'll done, and the storyline is engrossing.

A book for all ages. Just don't try to jump into the story line without reading the first two(The Stonekeeper (Amulet, Book 1) and The Stonekeeper's Curse (Amulet, Book 2)).Kazu has been drawing for years and has some really cool stuff under his belt, but this is one of his best. To compair the other volumes to this one, you can see that he gets better as he gets older. Kazu also posts bits of the up-coming stories at his site, boltcity.He also does the Copper web comic turned printed compilation and the Flight Anthologies Flight, Volume One.
