I love this classical guitar hymn book! The choral version of the hymns are found in hymn books of Christian-based churches so the classical guitar music transcriptions are not only for people who attend an LDS church but also for classical guitarist in any church. I am at an intermediate level of playing classical guitar. I find the arrangements to be well within my playing abilities.

This book does a great job of making it easy to play hymns with a guitar. The tabs are easy to read. I've been hearing guitar more and more in church, and it is definitely uplifting and in no way disrespectful. This will hopefully arm the next generation of aspiring guitarists with some church-worthy material. The book contains a few dozen of the more popular LDS hymns; looking forward to volume 2!

I love this book! The hymns are straight-forward, no-frills (i.e. solos, riffs, etc.) arrangements that are simple enough to learn quickly, but fun enough to play that I use the book often.Just as an FYI, I own both Vol 1 and 2 of this series. I use both of them and I recommend both of them, however I use Volume 2 much more than Volume 1. It could be my personal preference of hymns, but if I was forced to choose just one, I would choose Volume 2.

Love it, great arrangements and fairly easy to learn/play.

Too hard for most basic players that are not classically trained. I wish someone would publish a LDS hymn book that has a simple melody line with some basic chords added to tie the song together.

I was hoping for some more popular songs - and some that I could play. I know hymns aren't necessarily written for guitar, but for $20 bucks you should get more than 20 songs that the average guitar player can play. These are fine, but the arrangements are little difficult. I've been playing for over 30 years and found these to be harder than expected.

The concept of a flying machine shaped like a wing has been around as long as flying machines themselves. Translating that idea into reality took a bit longer. This Osprey X Planes Series book investigates the process, focusing on the efforts by designer Philip Northrup and his aviation company to field a militarily/commercially successful design.The first chapters skim through early designs and prototypes. It took the Second World War and the Cold War to create the necessary demand, and funding, for serious design work and testing. The Northrup Company would build two prototype designs, the XB-35 and the YB-49, that never quite came to fruition. Along the way, the narrative provides much insight into the challenges of successful engineering, and of navigating the world of arms procurement politics. The narrative is nicely supported by lots of period photographs and modern diagrams and illustrations. And, unlike many X Plane books, this one has a happier ending of sorts. Well recommended to aviation enthusiasts.

Many books have been written about Jack Northrop's flying wing aircraft, but this book in the X-Planes Series is the first book on the topic to come at a very low price. Having read the book, the author does a neat job of providing a introduction to the birth of the flying wing idea, and chronicling the history of early Northrop flying wings, including the N-1M, XP-56, XP-79, N-9M, MX-324, MX-334, XB-35, and YB-49, with 3-dimensional overviews of those planes. He also illustrates how the XP-79, XB-35, and YB-49 would have looked in combat settings, and also mentions in passing unbuilt Northrop flying wing designs including a cargo flying wing design and a smaller bomber design. The author then writes an epitaph regarding how the XB-35 and YB-49's design foreshadowed the future B-2 Spirit stealth bomber and currently the in-development B-21 Raider (which happens to be named for the Doolittle Raiders who firebombed Tokyo in 1942).

The author brings us along on a great adventure, via motorcycle. Something I’d never do in real life but can happily do vicariously through this book!

Great read

Great entertaining read!! Loved all the history!

This was an enjoyable read. There's a whole lot of depth added to each of the places, and the back stories of the people involved in making them famous (or at least involved in making them interesting). The book picks up pace as it goes along, which adds to the sense of urgency the author feels in completing the trip after the events unfold. There's one tidbit in particular that I learned that I'm amazed I had never heard before (I won't spoil it, but it deals with WWII). I really want to take a motorcycle trip of my own after reading this, but I'll have to buy a bike first, probably.

I think the author is an expert at After Effects, and he knows the program in and out. I trust him in his knowledge. Unfortunately, he doesn't know how to impart it. The book is confusing, although it tries to come across in a conversational manner. Even if you have some familiarity with After Effects, the author does a horrible job of passing on his technical knowledge. I've read the first few chapters multiple times, and have not gotten better at my understanding of what he's trying to teach. What makes things worse is that I don't trust the diagrams/figures; they seem to not match the text. In other words, if you try to rely on the pictures to help understand the text, you will be confused because they don't always coincide. Sometimes they match up, I think, but you never know when they do or not.If you want to learn After Effects, go to VideoCopilot.net. Like I said, AE is very complex, but you can begin learning it from Andrew Cramer. That's where I picked up my beginner's knowledge.

This is the third edition if this book that I own, and as all of the previous editions, it provides the reader with the valuable information and useful techniques. The book is very well written from the POV of making even a non technical reader understand what is going on. I have recommended this book to many a student.The only complaint I have is that this edition was obviously rushed by publishers as the book contains multiple errors and omissions as far as image description and some basic logic of the English are concerned. None of those, however, take away from the talent of Mark Christiansen to plainly and comprehensively explain complex topics in compositing and how they are applied in After Effects.

Good info, clearly explained by an expert in VFX and compositing. Most of the information will be of value to After Effects CC users, but obviously won't include all the latest features in After Effects CC. Regardless, there is a lot to be learned in this book, and I will probably buy Mark's future editions.

This book contains numerous tips and techniques on a variety of topics. It can be a bit hard to follow at times, and at a few points to I needed to do future research online to understand what the author was talking about. Also, some of the project files he refers to seem to be missing from or differently named on the disc, but I didn't find it to be to problematic, I just followed along to my own comps. This is a must have for any AE users looking to refine their skills.

Informative and helpful, but like every other textbook it's long winded when it doesn't need to be and lacks information when you crave more of it.

Starting out learning and as you go with the chapter and DVD it makes sense. plus it in paperback so I can highlight away in it an read wherever!

I wouldn't recommend this book. I didn't find the information practical to my needs. Skip it and save your money.

A well written explanation of the techniques of visual effects with AE. I will be using this as reference for a while

However I was pleasantly surprised by the historical information this book provided. I learned a lot of interesting facts I was not aware of. The book contained wide variety of full color reproductions of art work.The book does go into detail on the technical aspect of drawing. Explaining different techniques and proving tips. However, I would have liked more step by step illustrations to practice on your own. I am a beginner so I was only able to complete two lessons.There is a lot of knowledge to be gained from reading this book. The artwork displayed is very enjoyable. The detailed description of drawing tools is helpful for the beginner. But the technical drawing instructions are geared more towards the experienced artist.

"Foundations of Drawing" is an art book about the history, tools, materials, and techniques of drawing. I wish I had this book when I started learning how to draw. My original art instructor and many art books assumed that I already understood what various drawing terms meant or what mediums best worked with what paper. This book is cheap considering it'll save you money by explaining what supplies you really needed for what you want to do.The book started off with a brief history of drawing, which looked at the various periods to see what styles dominated or changes took place. The author then described the various drawing tools and materials, including how to best use them and what papers or brushes work best with which mediums. This was so helpful and explained why I've felt frustrated at times. He also explained the advantages and disadvantages of the various mediums. He included watercolor and other paints when used in a "drawing" style.He then covered a wide variety of drawing skills, like how to hold drawing tools; use grids; blend; erase; use line, shape, and hatching; create light and shade, and more. He clearly explained the various terms and how to do the skill. There were illustrations either showing a finished work that used a technique or demonstrating how to do it. A lot of the drawings were of nudes or figures, though he did describe the steps to take to compose and draw still life, interiors and architecture, as well as portraits and figures.I expect to regularly consult this book until I settle down to a favored medium and style. I'd highly recommend this as a reference book for students and self-taught individuals who are serious about learning to draw. Don't expect a lot of step-by-step drawing projects but rather the basics of how to draw well that you can apply to any project.I received this book as a review copy from the publisher.
