This book is a good introduction, but it skips over a lot of details that are important for the elementary understanding of the material. Some things the authors assume that the student knows which makes parts of the material a little more difficult to get through.Nevertheless a good and understandable approach to the study of fluids, mass and heat transfer concepts.

The text is short and concise, but I wouldn't recommend it for self studying. It doesn't have much detailed explanations for the example problems.

I use this book as an excellent complement to other two which I think best. I am referring to the classic B. S. L. (Transport Phenomena) and specially, Slattery (Advanced Transport Phenomena) which is far more rigorous. But this book has great problems and a help system for preparing Power Points of the lectures that is very good. It has the advantage of being a bit simpler than B. S. L. and, for an undergradate course, it can be very useful. Moreover, it is very didatic and easy to follow.

How can you not rate a book with "5 Stars" when the information in it saved your life?I am greatly summarizing this story to keep this simple, but you can find my full story on my blog, [..]. In 2008, at age 26 I was diagnosed with a rare and indolent form of Hodgkin's Lymphoma, stage II. After biopsy, PET scan, bone marrow biopsy confirmation, and pathology confirmed by 3 different labs, I was referred to an oncologist who told me that the best form of treatment for my illness was R-CHOP chemotherapy followed by radiation. In our hearts, my husband and I knew that the risk of fertility coming with that was not something we could risk so we began to look for other options.Through several "chance" discoveries, my husband came across Bill's book and ordered it. While he was busy reading other books on alternative and natural cancer approaches, I dove into "Cancer-Free: Your Guide to Gentle, Non Toxic Healing." This by far was the best choice for me to read, being an overwhelmed, emotional, newly diagnosed cancer patient who wanted so desperately to protect my fertility.He writes in simple terms without leaving out the science that explains the "WHY's" of cancer and alternative cancer therapies. I LOVED how empowered I became as I read what was the cause of cancer and WHY my doctor didn't understand much about alternative protocols. As I read, my doubts were reassured with KNOWLEDGE and CONFIDENCE that I could beat my cancer without chemotherapy. I also became RELIEVED as I read, convinced that Bill was an honest, well-intended person who was writing books to teach and help people and NOT to make money off of desperate cancer patients.Bill lays out what "he would do if he had cancer" to you in the book, and there are many additional treatments he recommends depending on the severity of your cancer type. I followed his protocol like NOTHING I HAD EVER DONE BEFORE! You have to be extremely strict and almost legalistic about it. Within weeks the remaining tumor in my neck (the first in my armpit was removed for biopsy) was shrinking to the touch. My new oncologist who was supportive of me "trying alternative therapies for no longer than 3 months" was amazed but said that my cancer could "wax and wane" in size so we would still need to monitor my progress carefully.8 months after starting Bill's protocol, I was declared in clinical remission and there was no physical evidence of tumor bulk. 3 years later I am still cancer free. Oh, and I also delivered a healthy baby girl, something I would not have been able to do yet if I would have gone through chemo AND the #1 reason we wanted to avoid it in the first place.I want to add that it is not an easy road. You can NEVER go back to the way you ate before. I still eat mostly vegan, mostly raw, mostly organic, eat the Budwig mixture, and still take SOME of the supplements that Bill recommends- 3 years after I started. Although this treatment is overall much cheaper than conventional treatment, nothing is covered by insurance and it is a lifestyle that can be more expensive than the average American, but TOTALLY worth it!Also- Bill has been so supportive of me when I had short questions. For instance, when I reached my 2 year remission date I wanted to see what supplements I could safely stop taking. I emailed him and he let me know what he thought with what I felt was a realistic and well-informed answer.I honestly DO NOT think Bill's protocol is for everyone. I DO believe everyone could do it if they wanted to, but it is a test of the WILLS. You have to WANT it bad and (as Bill says) believe you can get well. It is a complete OVERHAUL of everything you thought you knew about cancer, cancer research, and the American healthcare system. Whatever treatment plan you choose for your cancer, please let it be out of informed decision of both alternative (reading Bill's book or others with a similar belief) and the conventional information you receive from your doctor. NEVER make your decision out of fear.

I am a board Certified Oncologist and have treated cancer patients for more than 35 years. This book is very easy to read and is very informative. I too am convinced that there is many treatments for cancer that are far more effective than surgery, radiation and chemotherapy without any toxicity.This book should be read by any person with a cancer diagnosis, before they submit to, CUTTING, BURNING, and POISONING. Or, they should see a holistic physician with the philosophy outlined in this book before they make a decision about intervention therapy choices.

I highly recommend this book to any and all with any ailments, including cancer. I had lukemia, and had seven rounds of chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant. Following the ordeal, I was very weak and had pain in what was left of my joints and muscles. I have taken up this eating protocol and am feeling great. Foods are the answer, cure, solution to whatever ails you and this book is filled with that education.

First let me comment on the effectiveness of the supplements recommended in this book:I first found out this book after my late husband was diagnosed of glioblastoma grade IV. After doing extensive research (and having prior knowledge of other alternative cancer therapies such as Gersen Theracy (not effective on brain cancers), The Bill Henderson Protocal and the Budwig Diet were my own hope. I bought all the required supplements and started making the cottage cheese/flaxseed mix for him. However, the discovery of the tumor was too late and we went into hospice (he was both unwilling and unable to swallow large amount of pills required in this therapy). While I was taking care of him, I decided to take these pills myself, knowing that I had been under tremendous stress for a extended period of time couldn't be good for my health at all. While I was taking these supplements, I slept 5 hours a day, lost 17 lbs, spent 10+ hours at the hospital daily, and eventually did full time care taking for another month. In normal condition I would have shed a lot of hair (my weakest point and #1 health warning indicator). While I was taking these supplements during this extremely stressful time, I almost did not lose any hair at all. I started taking the barley powder late - only after my husband passed. In one month my blood ph level went from 5.5 to 6.5 (verified by blood test). I had to say that these supplements were keeping me in one piece.Now on the educational level of the book in general:Prior to this incident, I have already read a number of books on alternative cancer treatments. I think this book is very helpful in providing a clear guideline to people who just find out about their cancer diagnosis or who want to prepare themselves ahead of time. There were great discussions about the "cancer industry", the money factor behind the medical business, as well as conscientiously educating the reader to take charge in their own health and dare to ask difficult questions to their doctors. And trust me, I got almost every single textbook answer listed by this book when asking about treatment/diet from the conventional doctors. This book also provides great guidance on how to obtain the supplements.Knowledge is power. The more you know, the more you think, and the more questions you ask, the less you will fear. Cancer was a very scary thing. Now I'm no longer afraid of it because I know what to do if I'm faced with the same situation, I know how to take my time to research and interview a doctor who respects me for taking charge of my own health, and I have a concrete of food/dietary items that will help me restore my health.

Simple, easy to understand and implement, and EFFECTIVE guide to becoming Cancer Free. I read many other books on healing cancer naturally, and none of them come close to this one. I've added a few supplements like pancreatic enzymes, Vit. E, Graviola, Bitter Apricot kernels, zinc, chlorella (for heavy metal removal) and nascent iodine. Since I am just beginning this protocol, I don't have any results to report, but I've done the baseline Navarro hCG test, and in another month or so, I'll do another to see how I'm doing.Gen. 1:29: Then God said, "I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. I used the book in a class taught by one of the author's J. Saltz. The book builds on basic concepts about working with information, and adds tools and concepts. By the end, as promised, the reader is able to perform introductory data science on approachable datasets.

This is a nicely written book for beginners who want to learn about data science. When I say beginners I mean a smart high school upperclassman. The writing is not mathematically challenging and the examples are easy to follow. That said, the content left me scratching my head. The problem was not that the writing was bad or the topics were hard but rather I don't know why the authors included it. For example, early on the authors talk about binary representation. That is sorta-kinda useful but not as a core feature for a data scientist. Other oddities include the coverage of the central limit theorem and law of large numbers. I teach university level data science and biostatistics and I thought the explanation was nicely done but again I found myself thinking why are they taking the space to cover this as the core part of a book on data science. There are many interesting chapters (like the coverage of database connections and shiny) but so much of the material is barely an appetizer not even a light snack. While it is good to make beginners aware of things that can be done, the reader is only able to break the surface of some very deep waters.The code is not bad but it could be better. The typesetting on the code blocks could use work. The large font makes it easy to read but the way it wraps makes it rough to study and it causes it to not really conform to the popular R styles (like Google's). The choice of R packages is okay but it could be better. In particular, *many* data scientists work extensively with the tidyverse packages and they do data manipulation using dplyr. While bits of the tidyverse are presented it does not get enough attention and the lack of dplyr support is a very bad oversight. Basically the code looks closer to 2014/2015 then 2017/2018.If you are a reader starting from zero then this is not a bad buy but if you have any data manipulation experience start with R for Data Science: Import, Tidy, Transform, Visualize, and Model Data. It is superb and free on the web.

I've read four Data Science books this year, and this is my favorite so far. I particularly enjoy that each chapter starts with a brief philosophical lesson, story and then ties them together thematically with the lesson (Saltz may have invented the Harold of technical writing).R is a bit of a mixed bag. If you're not a programmer, you'll probably love it. If you are, well my internal dialog went something like, "@*#(&*$KHUSDFKJ@!!!! Another 'language' to learn!" Luckily, R is more of an overgrown statistical package than an actual language.This book is short, precise and to the point, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

This is definitely an intro book - it's not poorly written but also not the best on the subject.It uses R, which is an open-source, free statistical software - which is great - but R has some nuances that can be difficult to pick up, and those are not really covered here. As a practicing erstwhile data scientist, it's really hard to leave out statistics from the work (without fully understanding the data, the biases in the data collection and reporting, what's missing and what's an outlier: valid or not?) people can make some really misleading and wrong conclusions while exploring data in the name of "data science." So it would be good for some practical tips of how to approach new datasets for exploration, recognizing that not all datasets are going to be cleaned and curated for the data scientist. Having recently mentored a student who didn't know how to recode variables, that's a key component that should also be covered. It would improve also by following some of the O'Reilly format approaches for presenting code in a textbook.So expect to dip toes into the water but this book is very solidly in the shallow end of data understanding, exploration, and data science.

I wanted to like this book, but it's really not for me. This being a Llewellyn book, I expected more detail about spiritual/neopagan aspects of Halloween and Samhain. A good chunk of it was how to host a general Halloween party (which I can get off Pinterest). Another chunk is very, very basic esoteric stuff and divination techniques, like what a tarot deck is, and advising you to use your deck's book to find a spread. (C'mon. Not even one?) Had I not seen better books on this subject ("Tarot for All Seasons" for example), and having certain expectations from Llewellyn, I might have liked it better. I just didn't see anything new or useful here.(As for the "leftist" comment, I have NO idea what that reviewer is talking about.)

I pre-ordered this at the beginning of the year. It did not disappoint. I love the history, spells, and recipes. Halloween is a huge deal to me and I thought I knew everything about the history, but I learned new things. I'm looking forward to trying out the recipes and spells too. She did a really great job on the book. I love this series by Llewellyn and Mickie's is the best one yet!! If you love Halloween or the little book series by Llewellyn, it's a must!!

I wasn’t sure what to expect with Llewellyn’s Little Book of Halloween by Mickie Mueller, but decided to check it out to get into the holiday spirit. Something I particularly enjoyed was the focus on Halloween itself in its modern form and how Mickie incorporates that back into a witch’s Samhain practice. She invokes the fun of our modern secularized Halloween that we grew up with back into the sacred period of the Pagan Samhain, including the spooky and sometimes scary aspects of the celebration that are sometimes swept under the rug in modern Samhain practices. She writes that “Witches know that fully experiencing our emotions can give us power and increase our magic. In this way, fear can be a powerful tool.”The book opens by going over the history and evolution of Halloween and I learned a few things about it myself that I didn’t know. There are over 33 exercises and 11 tips throughout the pages. While the book covers things you’d expect to see in a book written about Samhain from a witch such as spells and divination practices, folklore and customs, it also includes a lot of clever celebration, decoration ideas, and recipes. The divination practices range from tea leaf readings to ouija boards to hosting seances. Mickie has an entertaining writing style and I found the book an endearing quick read which definitely got me into the Halloween/Samhain spirit.

I have many books on Halloween and I'm so happy to add this one to my collection. I love how easy it is to flip through and read up on the various traditions of the day, find a craft, or a recipe I might want to make. I have been enjoying sharing this with the kids. I've been looking for more pagan books that give me ideas to celebrate with the whole family and this is definitely one of them! I can't wait to try out all the yummy recipes and super fun crafts. I will definitely be pulling this book out every year to help me get into the spirit of the season!

I had high hopes for this book but was a bit disappointed. Much like the author, I have loved Halloween my entire life. But I expected more maturity from this book. The illustrations are very juvenile and even the way it’s written it feels like a children’s book. I did enjoy the history although most of it I already knew. Wish there was less about how to decorate for Halloween - Again, makes it seem like it was written for a child, what adult who obviously already loves Halloween since they bought this book, doesn’t know how to decorate their house for Halloween? I thought it would have more vintage photos. It just has cartoony illustrations. This little book of Halloween could have been done SO well if executed better. Better illustrations or photos would add a lot, the spells and recipes were good but the writing was a huge let down.

Love, love, love Halloween and this book encompasses all the Magick of Halloween, both new and old! Highly recommend collector's item for all!

Freezer to Slow Cooker is a quick and easy way to get a batch of freezer meals ready for the freezer. The recipes allow you to prep the ingredients for later cooking in the slow cooker. My only quibble with the cookbook is the author suggested adding partially defrosted recipes to the slow cooker. The USDA does not recommend cooking frozen, and I presume partially frozen foodstuffs, in the slow cooker. Great cookbook! Nice variety of make ahead crockpot meals.

I’ve often read articles in magazines and online where they suggest ways to cook through a weekend to provide meals all week long. Sounds great, but I rarely have a whole day (never mind two) to devote to cooking. This book offers the first method that really works for us (I think we now have 3 slow cookers?). The basic idea is to compile ingredients in gallon-sized freezer bags for the week(s) ahead, and then dump them into our slow cooker whenever we like. Both steps are broken down to be easy and quick, yet turn out fresh-cooked meals when we’re ready to eat them. My family enjoys the Cajun Combo, which includes chicken, shrimp, and sausage to make a delicious jambalaya we all love. We also like the sweet and sour flavors of the Apricot Chicken, which we serve with microwaved frozen vegetables and rice from the rice cooker for a fast and easy meal. The Tomato Tortellini Soup or Manhattan Clam Chowder are family favorites on chilly days, too.

It will jump from lighting strikes to burgees, and that's fine as the book reads as a novel about his life. Get Chapman's if you crave order and rigor, get Fatty's if you want to learn in a fun way.I appreciate his lack of forced correctness (alas, PC), and his frank approach to solutions; to what makes sense and what doesn't, particularly when it comes to any type of sailing technology (and this coming from a technocrat). If you believe sailing is expensive, read Captain Fatty - you will discover that in a world bent on selling you stuff, your drive and dreams are all the grit you need.

Cap'n Fatty has such a great writing style, it makes almost any of his books a worthy read if you want to know more about sailing of if your just into a little tropical-based humor. You don't have to be a sea gypsy to find value in his writings. If you own a boat, or maybe someday hope to own a sailboat, the Cap'n has more snippets of wisdom than Heloise has Hints. He has a sense of humor that will make you want to turn the page, after page after page. He is a renaissance man, a jack of all trades, and a Hemminggway of sorts. When it comes to reading about sailboating he is the man, and this book will have you either taking notes or highlighting the pages (and there are many) of knowledge that could only come from a sea gypsy. Thank goodness he can WRITE! A wonderful read. Thanks Cap'n !!!! Again!!!!

Chapter 1 was a suprise which gives an insight into where he's coming from. I'm not big on reading fbut this is a book I am finding hard to put down. Captn Fatty has a fun writing style and takes you through questions I've long wanted to talk to sailors about. He explains things in a way you generally have to agree with but leaving room for your own ideas. A highly recommended read for cruisers that will help you continue to make good decisions and be a better sailor.

Great book, easy read, lots of info; as an experienced sailor this is the book I wish I would of read when I first started big boats. Packed with tips, tricks and know how in a conversational format. Thanks Fatty.

Seems much more preachy then helpful. Anecdotes like, "people throwing you a party are is good", "people will give you things for free if you ask". Not exactly necessary "Tips" that I was looking for.

Captain Fatty at his best. Insights from a life at sea. A great read for a cruiser thinking about crossing oceans. The tips on outfitting alone worth the price of this book.

Lots of valuable information. Must be right - confirms what I think about sailing so that’s all good. Now to find my yacht.

As our countdown to cruising dwindles, we attempt to learn from the wisdom, or lack thereof, of others. Our learning curve will be steep, but this book makes the climb a bit easier. Mission accomplished, Cap'n.
