This e-book, How To Make Whiskey: A Step-by-Step Guide to Making Whiskey, was bought by me as a Kindle Edition. Bryan Davis has given up a nice read, and for the price some good information concerning the making of Whiskey. I don't plan to make my own whiskey, I just purchased it for the knowledge. If one is interested in doing this, I imagine they already know the making of whiskey as an detailed endeavor and that they will surely need a bit of experience. The equipment for distillation is quite involved and one will need some cash outlay and a fairly large area for this process. The book is interesting and sheds a lot of information on what it takes to make your own whiskey.

More of a long article or a phamplet than a book. Very basic knowkedge, only a few recipes with no theory or explination, no illustrations. As a homebrewer, I am spoiled with dozens of great books on brewing (Joy of Homebrewing, Designing Great Beers, anything by Jamil or Daniels etc.) but so far, the books on home distilling have been a huge collective disappointment. I can google much better information for free.

Instructions that tell you to heat ingredients "one or two hours" leaves you wondering how cook time will effect the end product. Telling the reader to "add yeast" makes the reader wonder how much? What kind of yeast? This book combined with other online resources is ok but don't expect to make spirits without some guess work if you use this book as a single resource.

$15 for a (nearly) 90 page book that generalizes everything to such a small scale (despite all the warnings given in the intro about how dangerous this can be). Mostly gives you a general idea of distilling, nothing goes in depth, and lots of repeating paragraphs (which would be ideal if this was written as a true reference book with more science backing it up).

Very quick read, but full of good quick practical information. If you already know something about brewing and distilling, it's a good book that add's knowledge. The guy is credible, and has good advice. He doesn't spend a single extra sentence over-qualifying himself, and instead cuts straight to the chase.

I like this book. It covers many of the aspects of whiskey making without getting too carried away in technical jargon. And the jargon used is well explained. From the equipment you need to the recipes for the major whiskey types to used wine barrel preparation, just about everything gets touched on in a writing style that's informative while retaining the right to be humorous and interesting.Why no 5th star? To be blunt: there's a severe lack of depth in some things that is an impediment to exploring whiskey making. For instance, a web link is supplied as one place to look for a still. Unfortunately, the site is very limited in its offering and just running google searches will mostly get you moonshine stills for mounting on your mantle rather than using for any purpose that may or may not be legal in your state. Aging is another area that's glossed over a bit. What's the best environment for aging different kinds of whiskeys? How often should the whiskey be sampled/tested during aging? There's reasons for being skimpy here. In the book, Mr. Davis notes that unless you're going to use a 59-gallon used sherry or bourbon barrel, your results will likely be skewed by things like wood area exposed to the whiskey. And then there's glass aging that he covers, but how much is a "bottle." In short, the information is not as complete as I had hoped. So the loss of a star.But worth what Amazon charges for it, by all means, and a very friendly way to get started.

Easy read with lots of basic information to begin the journey into learning how to make whiskey. Author does get into the science of ester formation and how it influences the taste of whiskey but at a level that is easy to follow and interesting. Few typos but barely noticed them especially as I neared the end of my rye whiskey neat.

I'm a total novice to distilling spirits and I have been looking for a "step-by-step" guide on the distillation of spirits to get me started. This book is the best of the home distilling books I have read. It contains a good assortment of mash recipes, advice and warnings for the novice moonshiner. This guide does get technical and I found that to be a bit intimidating, but distilling is a science as well as an art so be prepared to recall your high school chemistry classes.Whiskey making is an art and art is never created by rote. This guide will serve well to encourage those interested in the art of distilling spirits.

A fun and practical guide peppered with humor and personal accounts. I'm not sure you'd be able to get a still up and running just from reading it, but it gives a ton of information on the process (presented easily) and would be a worthwhile companion to any distilling effort.

I was really looking forward to reading this book, especially since I had just read Bobbie Brown's "Dirty Rocker Boys" Book- which was basically about him. I wanted to get Tommy's point of view about their relationship. But she didn't get one mention from him. Nothing?! Only Pamela mentions "someone named Bobbie Brown." Really? He only was engaged to Bobbie, and had her name tattooed on his neck- which he didn't recommend doing. But as with her, he didn't really go into detail about his relationship with his ex Heather either. It's almost like Pamela had final edit approval (removal) over that.The beginning of the book was just the worst- his private anatomy "talks" and he describes his "skills." Ugh. Aside from that, it's an ok book- he goes from ridiculous to almost down-to-earth, and back again. He was surprisingly close to his parents, but you won't learn too much more about him from this book, oh, and he likes the word "craise."

This is not quite 5 stars for me, but it was well worth my time and the purchase price. I read it over a three day period and I got tons of enjoyment out of it. I'm really glad that I read this book to get Tommy's personal take on several different things that happened to him, especially being married to Heather Locklear and Pamela Anderson. I was also interested in Tommy's account of going to jail, about a young boy that sadly died in his pool, and the passing of his father, being raised by his parents etc. Of course, many other great topics and stories are covered. I think a better rating would be about 4.6 stars, because that represents a percentage of the book that I totally enjoyed. The .4 remaining I sometimes felt was rather dumb, but it's not a big deal. I got many good giggles from the entertaining way Tommy expresses himself. I am familiar with Anthony Bozza and he does an excellent job finding the voice of the person he's writing for. I really felt that the writing style was completely Tommy talking. I can't guarantee someone else will like this, but it was good for me. It's not exactly the self-improvement type of book that I like to read, but I felt that in my own context of life, I identified with Tommy in a certain way. I've been epically misunderstood, and I think Tommy is misunderstood. The man personifies the idea of a rock star. He's wickedly talented. Post Motley Crue, it's probably true to say that he's the most talented of the four in that bunch. A true artist. Seemingly a lovable guy. That is all. :)

Entertaining, insightful and fun. Glad he didn't do the play by play of motley crue. It's been done to death. The book was about HIM. A lot of reviews complain about the notes from his famous appendage. I found them to be totally tongue in cheek, fitting of his personality. Most of these books are ego trips about all the groupies, this book went in depth about his marriages, kids and the hell he went through in jail. Good, fast read.

I am huge fan of Motley Crue and of Tommy Lee as a drummer. Was disappointed in this. If you know him then you already know that a certain part of his anatomy has been a major part of his life and don't need him talking from his ****'s point of view. Would rather he just talk honestly about his relationships.

To me this seemed like "Let's write a short book and make some fast money." If you're going to write a book, write a book, not just a few chapters of chosen parts of your life. Most guys don't have conversations with our dick, and having it chime in throughout the book made it even worse. His short "responses"to his editor in England only made him sound like a pompous ass. Aside from that, it was great...

First of all that is a straight five-star read. Why? Because those are just one person's thoughts on the life he's lived, and other stuff. Makes sense to either agree or disagree. It's all in the disclaimer, so just give it a quick look before either committing to the story, or walking away.I do have a habit of judging books by either the aftertaste they leave, or the amount of fun I had while reading them. This is by far one of the most fun reads, and I it's amazing, because there are no underdeveloped characters, most of the events are surreal, and overall it was a read worth spending 2 days on (and some bucks).So, if you decide to read it, get used to the fact that sometimes you would think "there it is, you said it, so true", and sometimes you would shake your head no, but you might learn something.It's also partly a more simple, not overdramatic look at the same events from the Dirt, and Heroin Diaries. Anyway, apparently it's time to move on to next autobiography).

I enjoyed this book. It was definitely written in Tommy's voice which made it feel genuine. He's lived a crazy life and was upfront about it and didn't try to make himself look better or like a victim. This book was funny, honest, and made him a lot more relatable in my opinion. If you enjoyed The Dirt you'll probably enjoy this: give it a read.

I love Motley Crue, but this book did not keep my interest. I finished it in hope's it would get better, but it didn't. I've seen Motley Crue several times , and like the book , it seems good at first, like their first show, but like their last show, it only got more boring. But the bad concerts was Vince Neil's for forgetting the words.. Tommy does great live... he should stick to music, not writing.

I've been wanting both of her books for awhile now and I finally splurged and got them both. When I first flipped through this book I was blown away and amazed by the content. This book is the number one resource for helping you along with your Polaroid SX-70 manipulations. She also provides some brief information on transfers and emulsion lifts (If you want to know more you should invest in a copy of her other book "Polaroid Transfers". It is HIGHLY informative. The author guides you step by step and even provides some background information on how the processes were discovered. She also offers a lot of inspirational material in an advanced techniques section of the book. At the end of the book there are artist galleries with drop-dead-gorgeous work!I especially find the handcoloring section of this book to be very helpful. I wasn't really aware that I could add some color to my SX-70 manips. She goes in-depth about each medium that can be used to enhance the color (Prismacolor markers, watercolors, pastels, etc.) She also provides some useful information on how to enhance the Polaroids digitally in Photoshop.I recommend this book highly to anyone who wants to get into the alternative processes with the Polaroid medium. Don't hesitate... get a copy today!

There can be more to a Polaroid print than just the 3 inch white framed square. This is a excellent book to use the prints for other art items both in it's familiar shape or by pulling the print apart. Works great with film cartridges from The Impossible Project too!

I wish polaroid was still in business. Kathleen Carr makes it seem easy to make beautiful images. The new Impossible film is just okay, and very expensive, especially with shipping costs from Germany.

This book is awesome! I wanted to purchase it at a major chain and decided to look here instead. I got 4 books for the price of one! I highly reccomend this if you are interested in excelling at your transfer techniques.

This is a great book ! You simply must add this to your collection ! "Polaroid Manipulations" picks up where Kathleen's wonderful first book, "Polaroid Transfers", left off, offering comprehensive, uncomplicated new techniques for Image and Emulsion Transfers. Additionally exciting is learning about the SX-70 manipulation process. The Digital applications section is so clear and straight forward--it helped reduce my confusion about how to scan my Polaroid art, use Photoshop to enhance it and printing options available. Polaroid manipulation goes high tech, and Kathleen Carr is our guide.

I love this book! It contains everything you need to know to do SX-70 manipulation. There is comprehensive information on the film, all of the available cameras, tools for manipulation, using a Polaroid Daylab to print slides onto SX-70 film (including info on various models of Daylab), handcoloring SX-70 prints and making digital prints of your SX-70 prints. This is the definitve guide to SX-70 manipulation. Everything you need to know about SX-70 is in here.There is also a section on Polaroid image and emulsion transfers. This section contains information that is supplemental to the information in Kathleen Thormod Carr's other book, Polaroid Transfers, so don't consider it a substitute for Polaroid Transfers. There is some redundancy between the two books in that there are step-by-step instructions for how to use various models of Daylab to print onto Polaroid films in both books. The models which are covered are different in the two books, however. Polaroid Manipulations covers Daylab 35 Plus and Daylab 120.Polaroid Manipulations also contains a "gallery" of SX-70 and Polaroid transfers by contemporary artists. And there is a terrific list of resources in the back, so you won't have trouble finding supplies.If you are in a photographic or graphic arts rut, this book will get you out of it! Outstanding!

As a nursing instructor I have struggled with how to get my students to get and retain the info they need on meds, without spending hours and hours on med cards they don't remember, nor gain much utility from. I wanted a simple book and this book meets that need only a little. It's a simplistic book, with key highlights on the meds, but it's missing important information like side effects. Plus, frankly the editorial layout of the book seems very poorly thought out. I don't h know who the editor was but the font is incredily small, leaving huge spaces around the text. There's an annoying footer that takes of a significant amount of space on every single page. Their are some pages that are completely blank except for one single bullet point--certainly there was a way to include that on the other page prior. There is one author listed yet early on there's page listing three authors. Frankly, the authors don't seem to have any significant credentials. Not even a BSN is listed for the main author. There's apparently an RN/Pharmacist, working on his CRNA for second author-quite strange. In my decades in heatlh care I have never come across an RN/pharmacist. This book has potential. It's very, very low prices seems to reflect the quality and usefulness.

Meds are not organized by classification or the organ system, so it really isnt very helpful. Similar meds should be grouped together by classification or at least by the system that they are used for (respiratory meds, cardiac meds, etc). There is no structure to the book at all

I really like the layout of this book and how it breaks down all of the drugs so simply and in an easy to understand manner. The reason I didn't give the book 5 stars is because of the numerous amounts of typos that are present in the book. I'm not even through the C's and have found 4 that could have easily been caught by spell check. It makes me cautious with the credibility of the book. But it seems good so far.

Written by a CCRN. Truly must know. No frills binding / paper. Perfect for making notes on the large margins. Small enough to carry in the medical bag.

I purchased the 140 Must Know Meds, 76 Cheat Sheets and the Assessment book. I was disappointed when reviewing the items as it really does make a difference for certain things to be in color. In particular when assessing a patient and looking at the different stages of pressure ulcers etc. Also you really cant see certain things either due to the font or the way it was printed...

Love it. I bought it on my kindle and I can make the font bigger or smaller.

This is a book that every nursing student should have! it's so very informative and filled with so much information. the only downside is the font is a little small

I bought the audible version as i have a commute into school of over an hour. I was excited as i have listened to the NRSNG pod cast frequently and appreciate what they do. The problem with the audible version is the reader, the pronunciations of the drugs are terrible. After listening to the initial trade name they give for the drug and having no idea of what they are talking about, the brand name will give me incite and i can figure it out, but the more i listen the worse the pronunciations get i feel. I've worked in emergency medicine for 4 years now and just he way the reader pronunciates Amiodarone is ridiculous.

Very informative. My kindergarten students read this together and wrote a short report based on the information. They enjoy reading these national geographic books and seem to retain the information well. It's nice that important vocabulary words are placed in text boxes to discuss as you read aloud. A lot of text features found as well so great to reinforce those elements of a text.

This is a good book for building reading confidence. The story provides a lot of information about polar bears, Where they live, what they eat (without being to graphic about their predatory nature). Almost all of the words are sight words or at least a child can sound them out fairly simply. The photos of the bears are amazing! My son was so happy that he could read this entire book by himself with minimal help from mom.

My son and I love the National Geographic Readers. My son (8) is an ESL learner and these books are great for learning English and reading. He loves Polar Bears and watches on TV, but doesn't always understand the English. This book really helps him improve his English reading while having fun at the same time. I love the format of these books, with lots of visual guides. We're on 9 books already and still going.

We own several National Geographic Readers. I found the Polar Bear issue was very informative and will be a good reader to start with. I found this particular issue to be the best Level I Reader.

This book was the main shared reading piece for my polar bear unit in class. It has great information and pictures!

Interesting but I don't think it's appropriate for young kids. Talks about them eating seals.

Cord stopped charging within a month, even though it was only subject to very light use. Save your money!! Also, be careful as all of the positive reviews for this product are actually for a book and not the cord. So don’t be fooled by the nearly 5-star rating, the product itself is 1-star quality!

So I thought I knew the kind of book it would be: read your Bible daily, pray daily, praise God daily, go to church, give your money and time to the church, if you've got kids, raise them well, be kind to your neighbors and coworkers, be active in your community, etc. I did not expect it to be both inspiring--encouraging--and challenging--penetrating. For example, here's a question from the introduction: 'What are we doing to participate in God's process of teaching others how to love Him?' Other 'wow' sentences for me: 'The king of the universe has a deeper desire to redeem people than we can begin to imagine. Amazingly, He invites us into the work. When we love Him deeply, He will form us to mirror his heart; and He has a missionary heart.''When the truth lays hold of our souls, we should feel the compulsion to share it....The world should benefit from our spiritual growth.''You've never accidentally met anyone. For a book like Habits for Our Holiness, that was a necessary strategy. Learning how others have come before me and walked the walk of faith always aids my own walk. My first tour through the Christian disciplines is Donald Whitney's Spiritual Disciplines for the Christian Life. Both of these books offer quite the same information, but both of the books are worth reading more than once. When I was a student getting my degree in education, one of the things we learned is how we learned--we could be visual learners (I am), auditory learners, or kinetic learners, or any combination of all of the above. In fact, we all have some degree of all three learning styles in us. I could take notes in a class and bring the notes back up in my mind when I was taking a test and read until I got to the answer I needed. Making things stick in our minds is easier when we take our own notes and read them in our own handwriting, or we read them aloud in our own voices, or we act it out with our own bodies. This in and of itself is why it's good to read the same kinds of information with more than one author. So here's what I brought away from the chapter on Bible Study: We have to question each passage of scripture--it's like asking the teacher to explain something we don't understand. 1. How does this passage reveal God's character?2. How does this passage reveal God's redemptive plan?3. How did the passage apply to the original hearers? 4. How does this truth affect my relationship with Christ? 5. In what ways do I rebel against the truth in the passage? 6. What is the impact of the passage on the church?Philip Nation has brought the disciplines together in an extremely readable way, understandable by any student of the Christian life. This is a five star book worth reading, meditating on, and digesting, simply to understand God and His word better. One can read entire books on each discipline, but I enjoyed the succinct, yet impactful, chapter-by-chapter approach of this book. Some of the expected disciplines are included, like Bible Study and prayer, but Philip highlights the importance of living out these disciplines in community. The perhaps unexpected chapters on simple living, submission, and spiritual leadership are a good wake-up call to the complacent believer.I would recommend this book for new believers, new church members, and as a church-wide study. It would also be a great way for a small group to work through the disciplines together. I plan on going back to re-read and spend more time on each discipline.

Philip's book provides a needed balance in our approach to spiritual formation today. Many times our spiritual disciplines are focused on our personal or corporate growth, which is true; however, our growth should also promote a missional focus. Philip Nation draws this out in his book Habits for Our Holiness and best summarized from page 16 of his book that "The world should benefit from our spiritual growth." Yes it should!

Philip's book is timely and spot on. So often we've pushed the spiritual disciplines to the back of our faith walk, believing in perseverance and grace. However, we're called to live Holy, prayer fueled, and Christ-centered lives--this book will lead and guide you into some great personal reflection. I admire Philip's work and his heart; a must read.

Excellent guide on spiritual disciplines that roots each discipline in being loved by God, and in loving Him. Some books on spiritual disciplines can come across as a set of things to do, and heart gets overshadowed by head. With Nation’s book, this is the furthest thing from what is so simply yet powerfully conveyed. This book is great for new believers and the lifelong follow of Christ alike.

Succinct, readable, and relevant.

Here's what I like about this book: it's not a how-to guide. There are plenty of books out there that will pretend to tell you the best way to pray or to read your Bible or to evangelize, give you three steps to success in spiritual discipline. This is not that book. This book doesn't tell you how to go about the spiritual disciplines, but how to approach them - from a heart firmly rooted in the love of and a love for God. In that sense, it invites the reader deeper into the disciplines themselves, not as actions, but as engagements - declarations of love for your Beloved.It's a refreshing approach to the spiritual disciplines and a good reminder of how intimately the disciplines are woven into the fabric of our being and God's design for us. That said, the book itself is not thoroughly compelling; it's a bit droll in places, reading more at times like a sermon or a lecture than a love story. Still, it's worth your time if you're looking to understand not what we do, but why we do it...and how we can do it more holistically.*Disclosure: I won a copy of this book somewhere. I forget where. The thoughts are all mine, though; promise.

I will never forget how one of my favorite books on spiritual disciplines, Spiritual Disciplines for the Christian Life written by Donald Whitney, begins with the story of a young boy who is transported by an angel to Carnegie Hall where he is allowed to observe a future view of himself. In this future view, he effortlessly plays the guitar with great precision only to be told that that could be him if only he would practice. In the words of Donald Whitney, “Discipline without direction is drudgery.”Philip Nation, author of Habits for our Holiness: How the Spiritual Disciplines Grow Us Up, Draw Us Together, and Send us Out, published by Moody Press, goes even a step further in his book on these disciplines in that he concludes that they are not just to make us holy, but also to make us ready for His mission. Spiritual disciplines, according to Nation, don’t just allow us to have greater intimacy with God, but they have a missional purpose in them where they make an impact in the lives of the people we encounter. I love how he makes that next step in this book showing us how to make it missional. I don’t recall seeing that in other books on discipline that I have encountered. The author is also very intentional to show in his book that love is the key. His first chapter is all about this. He wants us to love Him for Who He is and for our lives to reflect that love. That theme of love is strung all throughout his book. This is definitely more than a book of a list of things that we must do as Christians.One of the characteristics that I believe makes this book on disciplines unique is the fact that it first gives you instruction concerning tackling a specific discipline alone; then it gives you instruction on how to do it with others. He shows how togetherness brings a whole new dimension to the discipline.Another characteristic of this book that I appreciated is how the author takes each discipline and shows how bringing this into your life would cause you to rely on God. He shows you where your idols are. He shows you how these disciplines cause you to trust God, trust His goodness, trust His sufficiency, and trust His love.I believe that the chapter on fasting may just be worth the whole book. Nations does a tremendous job of helping you understand the discipline and the true motivation behind it. I found his words very convicting and convincing that this is something that I need in my life now. I will be pulling this book back off of the shelf just to reread this section of the book.I appreciated how he ends the book talking about the discipline of leadership and disciple making. As his subtitle suggests, these disciplines are not just meant to grow us up but send us out. At the end of the book he said, “It is time for you to live out the spiritual disciplines with love as the centerpiece and mission as the result.” Love and mission. That is one of the reasons I recommend this book.This book is not your typical book on spiritual discipline. If you have read the classics like Foster and Whitney, you will appreciate Nation’s fresh take. I truly do recommend it for your consideration.I received a copy of this book for an honest review.
