This book is nothing like its description. The stickers are not re-usable. They are made of paper and sticky back. Once put on paper if you try and peel back off they curl and loose stickyness or rip paper. I bought thinking if they say reusable it should be made of soft plastic like the kind that peels off waxy cardboard pages, but these are just ordinary stickers with paper pages. The book is a joke with only 4 pages to place the specific named rocks, and 2 pages to place tiny extra stickers anywhere randomly. Then only one activity page with 3 one minute activities like you might find on a childs placemat at a restaurant. Page 1 is used to put childs name with a brief descriptive paragraph of the earth. That's it. Total 8 pages. Rip-off. Should cost a dollar!!

Stickers are much larger than quarters and have nice bright colors. Mineral name isnt printed on sticker itself so if you peel off and stick outside book ... wont have name attached. Havent tried yet so cant comment on adhesive power. Cover arrived creasedUPDATE: These dont have enough adhesive

The five year old opened it and spent the next hour peeling and placing the stickers.

For the price, it's a thin book. It's got low level information that a complete novice might need (like how the internet/networking works), but that just makes the book even thinner. I bought it thinking I would be getting a book chock full of "tips" and guidance from experts in the industry. The authors put effort into this book, for sure. This book isn't advertised as a beginner (to intermediate) book--which is what it is.But, if you're looking to get ADVANCED or EXPERT knowledge that isn't already found for free on the internet, this book is not for you. It's just "here's how sockets work, here's how you serialized data, here's some ideas on synchronizing data across systems." Nothing exotic. Nothing like a Game Programming Gems book, or a Tricks of the Game Programming Gurus kind of thing.

Crisp, full of useful of to-the-point advice. Great review for somebody who is already an engineer, wanting to understand how to go about building their own game while wasting as little time as possible. The code samples seem great too. Really happy with the book!Caveat emptor: this book is not meant for somebody who doesn't know programming. You're supposed to be already pretty good at it when you pick it up. I already knew about networking and was looking specifically for networking recipes for gaming - this is a very complex subject that is well covered here. This is not the book you want if you are either an artist or a very inexperienced developer. This is not an intro textbook but a reference for the experienced programmer.

There isn't another book quite like this one, giving a very nice (albeit somewhat surface-level) overview of multiplayer game networking implementation. In hand with it's bibliography, one can probably muddle their way through learning enough to write reasonably good multiplayer game netcode.

It touched the most important network issues on networked games.

Great book to review basic networking concepts and to see practical implementation of useful C++ classes that solve not-so-basic problems that every multiplayer game has.

This book shows how you can build a server architecture that blends seamlessly into your client code. I highly recommend it for anyone that wants to add some sort of real time multiplayer component to their game.

A good introduction, but the chapters on Internet and Sockets (which made of nearly one-fifth of the book) are really not necessary.

I expected this book to be more about how-to write or design a multiplayer game; but contained too much historical content to be useful. I am in the process of returning the item.

Freaky but fascination SciFi book. Not just the same old, same old, but a really great read. Sad that Ms. Butler has passed away and there will be no more from her.

Earth has been destroyed in a nuclear holocaust. A wholly alien life form, the Oankali, succeeded in saving numerous humans, who they have kept in suspended animation for 250 years while the Earth heals. They inhabit a huge spaceship orbiting the Earth beyond the Moon, that is .made of living organic material.The Oankali finally awaken one, Lilith, who must first accustom herself to these apparently repulsive creatures. Once this is accomplished they enable her to awaken others of the suspended humans. At first all goes well, but as more and more are awakened they become suspicious of Lilith' s association with the Oankali. Because the spaceship can replicate earth-like environments, they doubt that they are in space. Suspicion and antipathy emerge between groups. Rivalry and deadly conflict develop. A few of the most intransigent are put back to sleep. The rest are sent to Earth, but poor Lilith, who has deeply yearned for human contact, is kept behindto continue living with the Oankali. Butler's conception of alien life forms and alien "technology" is very creative. Also she skillfully plumbs the inherent emotions and conflicts within the human psyche and between and among human groups. The story may not be the best narrated, but it gives the reader a great deal to think about.

It's hard to believe, but this was my first time reading anything by Octavia Butler, although she's been on my list of authors to read for quite some time. I was impressed with Dawn (the first book in the "Lilith's Brood" or "Xenogenesis" trilogy). I read it for my science fiction book club, and I have to say that we ended up having some really good discussion about the book. I'll dive in and share some of the reasons why this was ultimately such a powerful book for many of us in my club.I should start off by saying that in my opinion, Butler's writing is somewhat sparse and to the point - not full of flowery descriptions or long, flowing narratives. I actually really appreciated that about this book - mainly because when Butler decides to use those descriptive techniques, she uses them with power. Those scenes will whack you over the head. My impression is that this was intentional on her part - she used her narrative prowess to pull you into scenes that were significant and meaningful. She's not self-indulgent in her writing.I was immediately impressed with Lilith, the protagonist, from the start of the book. She certainly wasn't perfect, but she was real - human. As the story progressed, she struggled to find where she fit - did she fit anywhere? Ultimately, she was neither seen nor accepted as human, but she also wasn't alien. She was alone, and constantly faced the challenge of adjusting her expectations based on ever-changed situations. Her pessimism and optimism often worked against each other - it was difficult for her to find balance.The biggest part of what made this book so powerful for me were the question it raised - none of which had clear answers:- What is the line between coercion and consent?- Is a "trade" really a trade is there's no choice involved?- Does any character in the book ultimately have the freedom of choice in any regard, or is every interaction about manipulation?- What does it mean to be human?- Are humans really doomed to ultimately self-destruction without outside intervention?- Are the aliens offering a type of facilitated evolution? Or is the change so drastic that it can't even be seen as facilitated evolution? (i.e. will humans still be human? Is Lilith still human?)- Are the aliens good or bad? Does "good" or "bad" even exist?Honestly, it was these question that made me most appreciate this book and Octavia Butler as a writer. She's not forcing her opinions on anyone. She leaves it up to the reader to decide what they thing the right answers are. It was these questions that kept my book club discussing this book and it's themes for over two hours. I honestly think that if some of us hadn't had to leave, we would have kept talking about it. If you're someone who likes a clear resolution or stories where there is a clear line between good versus evil, then this book isn't for you. This one clearly lives in the grey space - where it's more about questions than answers. Ms. Butler will definitely have a permanent space on my bookshelf, and I'm looking forward to reading the other two in this series (Lilith's Brood Trilogy).

I have never read any Science Fiction books. Believe it or not, I have never watched Star Trek. I owe Octavia Butler a thank you. Because of Dawn I now have an interest in Fantasy and Science Fiction. From the very first sentences, Dawn by Octavia Butler is impossible to stop reading. As I read her novel, many themes entered my mind. The main character is Lilith. Lilith's life made me think of change and readjustment to new ideas, places and people, in this case th aliens known as Olinka. Lilith quickly becomes a portrayal of a strong woman.She is definitely a survivor.Lilith never slides into self pity. Due to war, her husband and son are dead. She finds herself under the control of strange slimy creatures likened to slugs. After a deep sleep, she wakes up. She acquiesces to their learning process. Her old way of life must be forgotten. If Lilith is obedient to the wishes of the aliens, she will become the first leader on the new earth. Leadership on this future earth will give Lilith the ability to teach and train other captured earthlings.However, change is never easy. Lilith will become the enemy of her own kind. Every day a choice must be made. Should she succumb to the thoughts of the rebellious earthlings or remain on course believing there is a chance to make something close to the planet where she once lived with family. If she kowtows to the rebellious earthlings, she will never see a revitalized Planet earth. Her decisions are difficult. I really felt sorry for Lilith when she had to fight off an overly sexed earthling. Starved for sexual intimacy, He falls upon Lilith like a giant rig out of control. He injures her body and mind. Still, Lilith does not give up.Lilith is a Hebrew name. In Jewish Folklore, Lilith is thought of as the first wife of Adam. Octavia Butler's Lilith is a symbol of the Jewish Lilith. Butler's Lilith is the first human to experience the new order on earth. Like Adam/Eve, she is the first to experience a type of the Garden of Eden. This new earth, like the Garden of Eden, is a forest. A forest that needs to be tamed for the growth of food and also, for the growth of future families.Science Fiction is entertaining and also meaningful literature. Science Fiction gives the reader the chance to think outside of the box about a new normal. Like Poetry, it jerks the mind. I am looking forward to traveling into another Science Fiction novel.

Completely inspired by the beautiful images! I was challenged as a designer by the call to create meaningful and thought through spaces that stir emotion with the use of real authentic materials. I love that his inspiration is driven from nature and that it's heavily considered in his architecture. His homes nestle in with their environment. Everything in this book is stunning!

Outstanding in every category!!I am a big fan of Jeffrey’s work so when I heard about this book, I pre-ordered it an anticipated its arrival for months!! It truly is a wonderful collection of some of his most adorned projects! Every page will make you stop and ponder and daydream of life in the perfectly designed home.

I love this book and getting into the mind of this architect/ designer. The forward is so beautifully written and as a nature girl I totally align myself with Jeffrey’s aesthetic. This is a beautiful book- and I’m proud to add it to my collection of coveted designer coffee tablebooks- that I read cover tocover.

I have been to Italy years ago, and spent a month there, and in that time I thought I had done all I could to leave feeling like I had immersed myself in the culture and lifestyle enough to know the country. It took a lot of time, a lot of money, and still many days were lost to navigational confusion (ROME, I'M LOOKING AT YOU), poor planning, language barriers, and tourist traps. The most significant parts of my time there happened organically, in often overlooked interactions with real people, at beautiful places not frequented by the average tourist. I recall being embarrassed at one point after noticing heavy Americans walking around shirtless or in tank tops and cargo shorts a the Duomo sites in Florence, speaking in a loud condescending tone to people who didn't respond to them in English. Gross. I had to make a lot of tourist mistakes in that month to find a real connection with the beauty that is Italy. What Corinna has done with this book is beyond valuable. She has condensed her years and years of extensive and continuing knowledge of Italy into an easily accessible guide which allows anyone with travel sense and decorum to truly immerse themselves in the beauty of Italy, as well as experiencing the kindness of it's people. She's been everywhere, knows everything, and knows almost everyone. This lady has stories... and you can feel her love for the country in the pages of this book. If you want to have an authentic experience, not just "a trip", this is the book for you. But if you do go, and you are American, please behave. Have reverence. Be respectful. Be kind... Shirt and shoes required.

I don't think I have ever met a person who loves Italy as much as Corinna. And it is apparent on every page. She appears to live, breathe and be the very essence of all things Italian. While reading, I think what I found most valuable and so amazing is that she really does share her secrets with us! She covers so much, and yet it wasn't overwhelming. It's a simple read, informative, practical, and is sprinkled with humor which I love. My husband and I are traveling to Italy to visit family towards the end of this year, and the timing of me finding this book couldn't have been any better. I found the chapters on Airport Tricks and What to Do When Things Go Wrong quite helpful. And since we are planning on eating and drinking our way through Italy, her chapters on How to Order Coffee, Drinking Wine in Italy and How to Choose a Restaurant will be ones we will refer back to I am sure. If I could jump on a plane today I would...with this e-book in my carry-on bag (and a perhaps a better chance of being upgraded than I would have had, now knowing not to travel in my pajamas!) A brilliant book. So glad I purchased.

No likes here, just a waste of money. Appears she got all her Glam friends to write a review and give her 5 stars. Book defined the word "superficial". Author gave me 30 pages on how to fly to Europe and how to cope with jetlag, 20 pages about Italian food, wine and coffee, 10 pages on pickpockets and get this 10 pages on using the bathrooms and how to use cell phones. If you have been to Europe, in fact any flight of over 4 hours you know to drink plenty of water, lay off the caffeine, and don't drink alcohol. There is nothing in this book about first time visitors what to see, what to do. It's also filled with another 10 pages of blank pages and pencil artwork. There .is also no index, not that you even need one. Didn't have to use my hi-liter pen, nothing really to hi lite. Took me only two hours to read it. You could have changed it to "Glam France" or "Glam Greece" and modified a few pages , it would have been the same i.e. how to fly, bathrooms, cellphones jetlag, etc. On a positive note, it's well written unlike the garbage book on Costa Rica I bought last year! In summary save your money and buy one of the popular books on Italy.

This guide seems to have two strengths: sneaky tips for making general international travel easier, cheaper and more glam; and advice on how to see the real, romantic Italy (the one of your dreams - not the queues at the colosseum and the nightmare of driving through Rome, but the tiny restaurant, serving perfect handmade pasta, hosted by a jovial Italian chap, which only the locals know about). This author divulges her secrets so generously. Her love for Italy is so obvious. This must be as close as you can get to travelling with the author to Italy, without actually joining one of her exclusive glam tours (oh, I wish!!! Maybe one day...)Highly recommended if you want the inside scoop to seeing more of Italy than the tourist trail. (And fun to read vicariously as an armchair traveller too.) Sounds like bliss!

This book could not have come at a better time! I have been dreaming of a trip to Italy for YEARS and now it's actually happening. As excited as I was to book this trip, I was feeling a bit overwhelmed on where to even start. Thanks to this gem of a book, I'm not overwhelmed any more. Being such an easy read and very helpful tips I have been able to book my flight, find AMAZING places to stay and feel more comfortable with my chosen itinerary. I'm taking the book with me! lol Corrine knows her stuff and I am so grateful for her and this book. Grazie Mille!!

I have never been to Italy, and do plan on getting there someday very soon. Reading Glam Italia! placed me right on the streets of the “non-touristy” side of the Italy I never knew I wanted to experience. With wonderful anecdotes and stories of all of her travels, Corinna really opened my eyes to a new way to travel- not as a tourist, but as a native. She shared Italy in beautifully descriptive language making me feel as if my best girlfriend was alongside me helping plan this trip to have the most positive and pleasant experience ever! Tips of both practical nature and tips to enhance ones basic travel needs were interwoven in the delightful down to earth tone of the book.I will absolutely be re-reading this book as I delve into my planning and pulling it out once I am in Italy!

I needed this book for my BSN course. I was extremely happy with prices that Amazon offers for book purchases and rentals. When I rent, it is super easy to return once I am finished. With my account, I just print a label and drop it off. I referred to this book often for my course to both answer discussion questions and finish projects. It was easy to read and contained pertinent information for my course. I was happy that I had the text to refer to for this course.

required textbook for my nursing class, it's a textbook, it was a lot of reading!

Rented this and it was spent. As in the book has been used for a long time. The pages are so fragile that with a turn of the page they are falling apart. Used the book but was afraid it would fall apart.

I bought The Black Stallion set for my nine-year-old grandson who loves to read. I thought he would love the books because he loves animals, is interested in horses, and loves adventure stories. At the time I bought the set, I had not actually read any of The Black Stallion books. However, the reviews sounded great, so I decided to try them out. My grandson seemed happy about the books, but as of this review-writing, he hasn't begun reading them yet.Since buying The Black Stallion set, I read all four of the books on my electronic library device. I really enjoyed three of the books, and I think my grandson will love these adventure stories. However, I loathed Black Stallion's Ghost and would have much preferred a different fourth book in the set. The story is very dark and evil, unlike the other stories, and my grandson should not read this book at his age. Most likely his mom will pull it out of the set.I would recommend the seller swap the ghost story for one of the many other fine choices. In fact, I would love to trade his book, if possible.

This was my first reading experience as a kid. I bought these for my twin niece and nephew. Normally I wouldn't review a gift, since I'm not the one using it, but I already know these stories very well, and they're wonderful. All sorts of tidbits to learn about life, and certainly the love and care of horses (and hopefully all animals).Bindings are solid, text is a good size, easily readable.

I read 2 of the books in this set when I was in High School, and they are as good now as they were then. I'm slowly ordering the rest of the books from Amazon. The only complaint about the box set is that the books contained are not in the order they were written by Farley except for the two mentioned above! I like to read books in the order they were written, not all mixed up. Other than that the box set is an awesome read for adults as well as young students!

These books were sent to a Middle School in WV after their books were destroyed during the June flood. I sent these books because I loved these stories when I was younger. I needed to send books that would be enjoyed by boys and girls and on different reading levels.

Read The Black Stallion for an event in our school library. It was such a great read I could not put it down! Upon finishing the book I immediately checked to see if our school library had all the books in the series and then ordered a boxed set of the first books for myself to read and then keep for Grandchildren. This is one of this books that is marketed as children's fiction, but is a classic everyone should read! If you have not read this series you are missing out!

Very good book series I read as a child and any horse lover will enjoy! I didn’t read carefully so pay mind that these are not books 1-4 but scattered throughout the series which is HUGE!

This series of books were my first books. This set was what I wanted for my step-granddaughter. As far as I can tell (she lives away), she is enjoying them.

This set of books was a gift for our granddaughter and she loves them.
